The Balm 'Meet Matt(e) Hughes' Review

I am a huge lover of matte liquid lipsticks and I have heard great things about this line by The Balm cosmetics. I don't own any make-up by this brand but I've been dying to try something, the retro packaging and sassy theme are too cool and have definitely reeled me in.

There are so many liquid lipsticks on the market right now and I have tried a fair few. My favourite were always the NYX soft matte lip creams but these ones are definitely competition.

I decided to buy the Christmas gift set for myself so I could sample six of the shades and for €25 for six minis when it's €15 for one full size, I thought it was pretty good value. The tubes are pretty small but I feel like they will last a good while and I can always buy a full size of the shades I like.

The first thing I love about the lipsticks are their names. I love a good pun and the way each lipstick is a character trait of the man 'Matt(e)' 10 points for creativity!

The first three shades in the kit 'Charming' 'Sincere' and 'Committed' are the nude offerings. 'Charming' is a fab deep rich mauve nude. 'Sincere' is a lighter more brown toned mauve while 'Committed' is a very much pinky-nude. 'Doting' is a shade I haven't worn that much yet, It being a lovely light coral shade I feel like it's much more summery. 'Dedicated' is a gorgeous berry red which is fab for Winter and Christmas as is 'Loyal' a perfect deep red. I'm not a massive lover of red lipsticks but this isn't too bright or 'out there' I think it's very wearable.
L-R: 'Charming', 'Sincere', 'Committed', 'Doting', 'Dedicated', 'Loyal'

The colour selection in this kit is pretty good and varied with something for everybody. All the shades are very wearable but I would have to say my most worn are 'Charming' and 'Sincere' because I am a big fan of deep nudes. I'm excited to pull out 'Dedicated' and 'Loyal' for Christmas nights out though.

Overall, I looove these lipsticks. First off they smell good, there is nothing I hate more than icky smelling lipsticks so this is important to me, they are kind of minty. Secondly, they are SO pigmented, literally all you need is one sweep on your lips and it's opaque. Thirdly, these lipsticks are really fast-drying. I will say that they do feel a little sticky on me while drying but once they are dry you honestly can't even feel them on your lips.

For a matte lipstick there is always the worry they will be drying but I don't think these are at all. I think it's important to make sure your lips are in good condition before wearing these though because they do show up and blemishes or dry skin on the lip - not a good look! Finally, they are extremely  well wearing and long lasting, even after eating and drinking they stay in place for hours which suits me because I always forget to top up my lipstick.

All in all, I would definitely recommend these liquid lipsticks to you. If you love the matte finish you really can't go wrong. There are so many lovely colours in the collection and I really want to try some others. Guys google 'Trustworthy' I am in love and wish it was in this kit!

Let me know in the comments what your favourite liquid lipsticks are? Do you like the matte finish as much as me?
