2014 - The Year That Was

31 Dec 2014

Wow here we are again, at the end of another year. It really does feel like no length ago at all I was writing this blog post about 2013. Time really is flying! Looking back at this year, I am happy. I'm happy because it was eventful. I had a lot of new experiences, most of them wonderful but not them all, either way I've learned a lot.
I thought I would share my 2014 highlights on here. Some of the things that really made this year a special one for me.
  • I Graduated! - Probably the biggest life event of this year was finishing my studies. I am so happy to say I got a 2.1 and I am now a qualified teacher. It's such a relief and I am proud of myself for getting through all of that work and studies to now have a profession.
  • I got my first car - Definitely another momentous occasion. My new car has brought me so much freedom which is fantastic. Just another step to full on grown-up life!
  • My new puppy - Nicky has been such a wonderful addition to my life. I've never been much of an animal person. I 'm not someone who treats their pet like a child and he will never be sleeping in my bed or anything but God, I love him. He is so cute and makes me very happy. He gave me something I never knew I needed.
  • I tried new things - One of the highlights of this year was doing tag rugby throughout the summer. Not only did it make me fitter but it allowed me to make new friends and there were lots of social events that came with it that really made the summer amazing. I can't believe I almost said no to doing it because I don't usually do sport. I am so glad I stepped outside my comfort zone.
  • Rekindling old friendships - Another highlight of the year was becoming best friends again with my childhood best friend. I love her so much and a lot of the good things that happened this year were influenced by her so I'm so grateful to have her in my life again.
Looking back on the year, I really am happy with how it turned out. It was a good 'un. I feel like things have come to somewhat of a standstill in my life right now so I am determined to get back on track in the new year. There are so many things I would love to happen in 2015 and I really want to make them happen. I am really looking forward to my life moving on in 2015.

I want to finish by wishing you all a very happy and healthy new year! I hope you have a wonderful night ringing in the new year tonight, no matter what you will be doing. Love you all and see you next year!

Christmas with Debi

23 Dec 2014

Hello everyone!
I'm Debi from Dib-Dab-Debs, a budding writer, blogger and dog enthusiast. I'm so excited to be featuring on Sinéad's blog today, only a few days before Christmas! I really love Christmas. There's nothing better than an excuse to eat lots of food, give and receive presents, and spend time with loved ones which is exactly what Christmas means to me!
1. What is most important to you about the holidays?
I know that it's a complete cliché but spending time with my family is the most important thing about the holidays. Since I moved out of my parent's home in 2011 with my (now) husband it has always been a bit of a battle to see both families, especially on Christmas Day, but we've come to a sort of arrangement that works for everyone now.

2. What is your favourite Christmas tradition?

Every year on Christmas Eve we go round to my parents' house to watch It's A Wonderful Life. My parents, five sisters, my brother-in-law, my husband, our three dogs and I all cram into my parents living room usually with a hot chocolate or mulled wine and some home baking to watch the black and white version of the classic (and best) Christmas movie. It's such a special little touch to the festivities although I don't much enjoy the freezing drive home after midnight - even if it is only ten minutes!

3. What are you doing for the holidays this year?

This year my husband, our dog, Roxie, and I are having Christmas dinner with my family before going over to my in-laws' for their Christmas quiz in the evening and staying over night with them. We normally switch what family we have dinner with each year so that we keep everyone happy. Boxing Day will be spent at my sister's house with all my family again and at New Year we'll have dinner with my in-laws instead!

4. Will you dress up for Christmas Day or wear comfy clothes?

It all depends what I get in my presents in the morning. I'll probably dress in a "smart/casual" sort of way so that I look good but don't freeze on our travels to and from different houses. I won't be hanging about in my pyjamas all day that's for sure. I've never done that on Christmas Day!

5. When do you start to get excited for Christmas/feel 'Christmassy'?

Usually some time after my husband's birthday which is the 27th of November. At the beginning of December the decorations come out and the Christmas tunes start to be played in our household which is bound to get me in the Christmas spirit.

6. What's at the top of your Christmas list this year?

I wrote a post about this at the beginning of December. Whilst I know I'll be given actual gifts all I would really like is some patience and inspiration for what to do in 2015. I wouldn't say no to a few books and some new jeans though!

7. What is your all time favourite Christmas song?

Is it bad if I really love Girls Aloud's Not Tonight Santa? It's so cheesy and awful but it puts me in such a good mood. I also love Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade, I Believe In Father Christmas by Greg Lake and Santa Baby. Oh, there's just so many good songs! I could be here all day listing the ones I really love.

8. What is your all time favourite Christmas movie?

It has to be It's A Wonderful Life. I almost forget how lovely a film it is until I sit down and watch it on Christmas Eve. It has such a sweet message. Plus it is made even more special due to our tradition of watching it every year as a family. I also like The Polar Express (we used to watch it every year the week before Christmas) and Love Actually.

9. What is your favourite Christmas meal/treat?

I adore my mum's roast potatoes covered in bread sauce on Christmas Day and her sausage meat stuffing that my younger sister now makes for us every year. Last year when I had Christmas dinner at my in-laws' I missed them so much. I'm thrilled that I'll be having them this year!

I hope that got you all in the Christmas spirit now if you weren't already. I just want to say a huge thank you to Sinéad for having me on her blog today. It has been awesome. I think I'm definitely ready for Christmas now!

Hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas!

Day 37 - Monday 15/12/14| Mums home baked currant cake with real butter, yum yum. I love having a mum who bakes all the time so I have a constant stream of new treats to try!

Day 38 - Tuesday 16/12/14| This life size inflatable snow globe is so cool! you can go inside it and get your picture taken with the fake snow falling down - such a lovely Christmas photo idea for children!

Day 39 - Wednesday 17/12/14| Went off to my Grans house with my parents and my little nephew today. He is so sweet and so much fun. We had good little chats in the car despite his limited vocabulary haha. I got to have chocolate cake and a catch-up with one of my cousins I hadn't seen in a while so that was lovely.

Day 40 - Thursday 18/12/14| Coffee shop date with a friend. I love coffee but during the day/evening I always go with tea. I can't eat anything with coffee either! I had a tea and a jam donut, naughty but eh yolo and all that!

Day 41 - Friday 19/12/14 | Wrapped all of my presents today. Here are the gifts for my nieces and nephew. I can't wait to give them to them!

Day 42 - Saturday 20/12/14| Really pretty Christmas lights in the shopping centre.you can see the snow globe I took the picture of earlier in the week down below. I was in the shopping centre a lot this week, haha!

So there we have it,some of the happy moments of my week. I really enjoy doing this challenge because it honestly does make me take notice of the little joys in life that may otherwise be overlooked.

2014 Life Lessons

20 Dec 2014

I'm all about sharing my life lessons on here in a bid to spread some new found wisdom, so I thought why not share some little things I have learned throughout the past 12 months. Remember, these are just my personal opinions based on some of my experiences throughout the year so it's totally fine to disagree!
  1. We shouldn't want to change ourselves: For a long time I have wanted to change certain aspects of myself. I wanted to be different, to be a more extroverted and an out-going person. I would look at other people who were the heart of the party, and who could talk for hours to people they have just met. I always wished I could be that person. But this year I've realised that I'm never going to be like that, it's just not me.  I am shy, I find it hard to talk to new people, I'm self-conscious of what people might think. So what? that's me. It takes all different kinds of people to make the world so I should just accept who I am and be the best version of that person. Besides, I'd rather people like me even though I am shy and quiet rather than liking me for being someone I'm not.
  2. You can't make anyone love you: No matter how hard you try. No matter how lovely, kind and funny you are. No matter how God damn gorgeous you make yourself look. No matter how much fun you try to have with a person. There is no way to make someone love you. They either do or they don't. The reason for either is something no one can ever put their finger on, I guess it's chemistry.
  3. Don't take what anyone says at face value: Another slightly negative one but I'm being honest here. I have learned not to believe everything everyone says. Don't expect too much from people. People consciously say things they want you to hear. When I look back on the year, there are so so many situations where peoples words and actions have totally contradicted each other. Be very cautious when it comes to trusting people.
  4. True friendship never dies: It doesn't matter how long you have gone without seeing or speaking to them, true friendship never dies. The next time you see each other you pick right up where you left off and the love and appreciation for each other is still there. I am so happy to have re-kindled old friendships this year.
  5. Create your own happiness: Depending on other people to make you happy is only going to end badly. I do this way too much, I still do it but I've been made aware of it this year and I'm trying to stop. I'm not saying that your friends, family, relationships shouldn't make you happy. Of course they should! But one person should never be the be all and end all of your happiness. If you make some one your everything, and you lose them, you are left with nothing.

So these are five things I have learned this year! I'm sure there's lots more but these are the main ones that come to mind and that I feel are worth sharing. I would love to hear what you think of them in the comments and let me know if there's any great life lessons you have learned throughout the year!

Christmas? Nailed It.

17 Dec 2014

First of all, the title, how punny am I? haha. I think this nail look is the epitome of Christmas. Santa Clause red with the most beautiful glittery specks of silver, gold and red. When I applied this I was oohing and awing like a crazy women. My brother was looking at me funny, but he's a boy, he wouldn't understand! What normal girl wouldn't fall in love with such sparkly prettiness!
The base colour is L'Oreal Colour Rich nails in 'Exquisite Scarlett'. This is a bright and vbrant red. Something different to the deep blood and berry shades that are common this time of year. This is definitely a shade of red that could be worn throughout the year. It's a fun, lively kind of colour.
This was topped off with a Christmas Barry M polish in 'Moonlight' I'm sure lots of you have seen this before as it's gone down a treat with so many people but LOOK AT IT, AGH! I just keep looking at my nails now and admiring them, is that weird?

So, I have found my perfect nail look for the Christmas season hooray! I would love to hear in the comments what you think. Have you used any of these polishes before? What colour do you like to have your nails during Christmas?

Christmas with Beth

16 Dec 2014

Just over 1 week until Christmas now, is everyone excited? I am! So whilst in the Christmassy mood it's time for my next Christmas guest post. This week it's with the gorgeous Beth from Alphabeth. Be sure to check out her blog, it's one of my absolute favourites and I know for a fact you will all love it too.

Time to see Beth's lovely Christmas photos and her answers to my questions.

1. What is most important to you about the holidays?
I think the most important thing to me is just spending some quality time with friends and family, especially because I now live away from home so I don't get to see my family as often any more!
2. What is your favourite Christmas tradition?
Hmm, that's a difficult one! My family don't really have Christmas traditions as such but one thing I do really enjoy is putting up the Christmas tree, though I wasn't around to help out with that this year.
3. What are you doing for the holidays this year?
This year my whole family are going over to my aunt and uncle's house for Christmas dinner which we've done for the last few years now. We then normally stay there until quite late in the evening, drinking and chatting and watching all the various Christmas specials on TV. Then I think we're going to spend New Years up in the North Coast which I'm really excited about!
4. Will you dress up for Christmas Day or wear comfy clothes?
I normally try for a happy medium. I might make an effort with my hair and makeup but then just dress quite casual, though In an ideal world I'd probably stay in my PJs all day!
5. When do you start to get excited for Christmas / feel 'Christmassy'?
Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, but I have to admit, I'm not the world's most Christmassy person. For a few years in my teens I actually really wasn't that fussed on Christmas at all, it was just another day of the year for me, but I've started to appreciate it again as I've gotten a bit older- weird I know!! These days though I normally don't feel particularly Christmassy until really late on Christmas Eve!! Don't judge! haha.
6. What's at the top of your Christmas list this year?
At the minute I'm saving up for a DSLR camera which I've wanted for absolutely ages so hopefully I'll get some money to put towards that.
7. What is your all time favourite Christmas song?
'Fairytale of New York' by The Pogues!! Such a classic.
8. What is your all time favourite Christmas movie?
Not a very original answer but I love love love 'The Holiday' and 'Love Actually', though whenever I was reading Kirsy's post she said one of her favourites was 'Beauty and the Beast: An Enchanted Christmas' and it reminded me how much I love that film.
9. What is your favourite Christmas meal / treat?
Selection boxes. They're actually quite high up on my list of the best things about Christmas in general!

Hugs,
Beth xxx

Free Blog Designs

13 Dec 2014

Hey Everyone!
Woah two blog posts in one day! Well I wouldn't really consider this a proper blog post, it's more of an announcement. I want to offer my blog designing abilities to you all. I absolutely love designing blogs. If I got a euro for every time I've changed my blog design I would be a very rich lady. Every time I feel a bit 'meh' about my blog, I change the design and it gives it a new lease of life. I think I do it just because I can and because I'm so full of ideas. So I thought, why not design other peoples blogs rather than constantly change mine.

With all of my practice I have become some what familiar with CSS and HTML. I am by no means an expert. I am no where near as good as the designers you would pay €30 for a design. I cannot do everything just yet and I don't have the adequate resources for absolutely everything. So chances are I might not be able to give you exactly what you want. For that reason I am doing it free of charge. You will be doing me a favour by building my portfolio.

Here's what I can do - (You can have any combination of the following)

Headers - Fairly simple headers with different fonts (I have millions of fonts!) and simple designs/overlays if available

Background - Textured / Patterned background
Social Media Icons - Social media icons to match your blog theme. Either the round button type or the long bar type.
Blog Button - Customised blog button to match your design
Gadget titles - Customised gadget titles
Profile Picture - Customise your picture and 'about me' section
Signature - Signature to match text on your blog
Alignment - I can centre everything in your blog - Post title, date header, tabs, gadgets, I can bring the date and post title closer together etc.

Here are examples of some of the blog headers I have done already -

Perfect Little Paradise Blog
For 'Bits and clips' header competition:
When designing your blog you can tell me the colour scheme you have in mind, show me any blog designs you already like, create an inspiration board etc and I will do my best to create something you like!

Check out my Pinterest Board for some inspiration.

If you are interested just send me an email , - dreamingagainblog@gmail.com and we can get working on your brand new blog design!

Stocking Fillers for Her

Hey Everyone!
Time for my 'Stocking Fillers for her' guide. Buying for girls is so much easier in my opinion because most of the time you can just get them what you would like to receive yourself. Make-Up, accessories, and little girly bits are usually a safe bet for most girls. For the less girly ones I would go for stationary, books, or gadgets. Here I have put together a collection of my favourite gifts I have found online. Check 'em out!

1 | Pink Socks and Hot Water Bottle Cover For the indoorsy girl.
2 | 12 Yankee Candle Set For the décor queen.
3 | Work Hard Play Harder Notebook For the organised chick.
4 | Emma Hardie 4 Piece Starter Kit For the skincare lover.
5 | Grey Studded Clip Top Purse For the fashionista.
6 | Crystal Pearl iPhone Case For the phone addict.
7 | Benefit Fun Size Flirts For the make-up obsessed.

Do let me know in the comments what you are planning to buy your friends, sister and mum. I would love to get more ideas!

Snaps | Galway Christmas Market

11 Dec 2014

Hey Everyone,
Every year from the end of November to December 24th, Eyre Square park in Galway City centre is transformed in to a beautiful Winter Wonderland. There is an amazing market showcasing loads of local crafts. There are also many food stalls with everything from chocolate fountains, waffles, crepes, to the likes of ostrich and boar burgers (surprisingly delicious!) There are several festive bars including a massive beer tent and a mulled wine bar (the smell of that stuff is enough for me!) There's a little cabin where the little ones can pay Santa a visit and let him know what they want this year or they could always just post a letter to the North Pole in the special post box!
Everywhere is decorated so beautifully and in such detail! There's no way you could take a walk through the market and not feel festive.
I went on the carousal last year with my nieces and I hope I get to go on it again with them this year! How pretty are all the colours?
I adore the little candy canes hanging from the trees, too cute! 'Nollaig Shona' means Merry Christmas in Irish for anyone wondering.
I love this shot of the moon shining down over the market. Oooooh the Christmas feels! And look at those beams to the left of the photo. They shone up so high and moved around the sky. You could see them from all over the city. I thought they were a really cool touch!
There was fairy lights absolutely everywhere and so many gorgeous little archways like this one. The sign above is the Irish for what's written in the sign in the picture below, which was the other side of this arch.

Oh how I love Galway. It's such a magical place to be during Christmas. This was my first visit to the market this year and honestly I didn't do much. I went solely to take photographs with my dslr because whenever I do go again I won't really be able to look after that piece of equipment haha. I'm planning on going with some friends once or twice for some food and drinks and hopefully another time during the day time with my nieces and nephew.

I hope you liked these pictures and they put you in a festive mood. Let me know if there is any place near you that is done up for the holidays!

Christmas with Kirsty

9 Dec 2014

I have decided to do a little 'Christmas with ___' series where I ask some fellow bloggers festive questions and they share some of their Christmassy photos with us. First up is the lovely Kirsty from 'Think Like Kirst', check out her blog, it's amazing and one of my favourites. Now I will hand you over to the lady herself...

Hi lovely 'Dreaming Again' readers!
I’m Kirsty from Think Like Kirst, and I’m so excited to have been invited to take part in the Christmas series that the lovely Sinead is running. (Bit of a pinch yourself moment – Love her blog!) I love Christmas, I think it’s my favourite season as you get to wear cute jumpers and wrap up warm with blankets by the fire.

My answers to Sineads questions:

1. What is most important to you about the holidays? Spending time with my family and also seeing their reactions when they open their presents too. I love the atmosphere in the mornings.

2. What is your favourite Christmas tradition? I don’t think we really have a tradition as such but I tend to be the first one to wake up then it’s like dominoes.. I’ll wake my brother up and then we’ll sit talking until one of us is brave enough to wake my parents! I think that’s my favourite - just because it’s hilarious. It happens every year without fail and we get the same reactions/answers every year.

3. What are you doing for the holidays this year? Probably working most of it, retail and Christmas literally is a total whirlwind and extra busy. But probably staying inside the house all day, eating, and watching too many Christmas films to count on one hand.

4. Will you dress up for Christmas Day or wear comfy clothes? It all depends as last year I wore what I was given as gifts, but I’m one to sit in my pajamas for a few hours then I’ll get dressed up in heels and a pretty dress because it’s Christmas!

5. When do you start to get excited for Christmas / feel 'Christmassy'? The past few years, it hasn’t felt like Christmas until the week before, but this year I have Michael Buble’s Christmas CD at hand and ready to play in a few weeks time. Plus I have a few decorations up and I really need to finish them off to give my room more of a Christmassy feel – Then I’ll be excited.

6. What's at the top of your Christmas list this year? Id say either the pink Fujifilm Instax mini 8 camera or the MAC 15 slot eye shadow palette that you can build yourself as a girl can never have enough eye shadows! I know how expensive make up can be but I thought it’d be a fun thing to collect/ refill – especially if you use them all the time.

7. What is your all time favourite Christmas song? Hmm, I actually don’t know! I love Do They Know Its Christmas, White Christmas, Merry Christmas (War Is Over), Last Christmas, Winter Wonderland and All I Want For Christmas. So. Many. Hard to choose!

8. What is your all time favourite Christmas movie? I’d have to say either Love Actually, Miracle On 34th Street, The Holiday, Beauty and the Beast: An Enchanted ChristmasChristmas Carol: The Movie. Such hard decisions when picking a favourite – I’ve probably missed quite a few good films!

9. What is your favourite Christmas meal / treat? I don’t know why but the tinned Ham/Oven cooked Gammon, or sausages wrapped in Bacon! But for me it comes down to the puddings – so many to choose from and all Christmas to eat them.

So there you have it! We’d love to know what’s on your Christmas list this year and also what your favourite Christmas song and film is. Is there too many to choose from or is there a definite favourite that stands out!? Once again - A massive thank you to Sinead for having me! I think I got a bit too excited talking about this particular time of year.

Merry Christmas and lots of love,

Kirsty x

#100HappyDays Weekly Round-Up 4

7 Dec 2014

L-R
Day 22 - Sunday 30/11/14 | Yummy cheese cake my sister made complete with strawberries and blueberries. It was delicious but I would be lying if I said I finished that whole bowl!

Day 23 - Monday 01/12/14 | Monday I was incredibly sick, vomiting all day so there wasn't anything in that day that was particularly 'happy' but I guess it was nice to spend the day in my jammies.

Day 24 - Tuesday 02/12/14 | Tuesday was another super sick day but it was a lovely sunny and frosty day so opening my curtains to a blue sky and some white on the grass was pretty nice.

Day 25 - Wednesday 03/12/14 | I was all better by Wednesday and was stuffing my face with fast food. Sure, why not! I love chicken burgers, they are always my first choice.

Day 26 - Thursday 04/12/14 | Thursday I treated myself to this scarf from Miss Selfridge. It was like €25 which I think is a lot for a scarf but hey, I'll wear it most days and I thought I totes deserved something nice after my awful sickly week haha!

Day 27 - Friday 05/12/14 | Friday I went shopping with my sister and one of her daughters. It was so festive in the city and I felt really Christmassy. However, I thought these sweets looked pretty cool and instagramable so I took a pic of them for my happy snap.

Day 28 - Saturday 06/12/14 | I bought a Christmas jumper for Nicky on Friday in Penneys (Primark) and he looked oh-so cute in it! he actually loves wearing it. He is totally the kind of dog that suits a Christmas jumper.

I hope you liked this quick weekly round-up! I also hope you all had an amazing first week of December! let me know in the comments something that happened in your week that made you happy.

My Favourite Winter Knits

6 Dec 2014

  Hey Everyone!
For the month of December I want to do a weekly 'My Favourite Winter ____' I think it will be a nice way to share some of my favourite fashion and beauty seasonal bits with you all. I thought what better place to start than with my favourite winter clothing - knit jumpers! As soon as a chill comes in the air I am delighted to pull out my jumpers and of course, buy way too many new ones!
So without further a do here are my six favourite knit jumpers to wear throughout the colder months.
The 'Yellow knit',  'Rusty Red knit' and the 'Peace knit' are all new additions to my wardrobe which I've bought in the last couple of weeks. The red one is from Stradivarius, a store which I have never heard of before. Apparently it's a Spanish shop and there's loads of them around Europe but there only seems to be one in Britain and Ireland which is randomly located in White Water Shopping Center in Newbridge. I doubt any of you will ever be there but if you are check it out, It's amazing! I bought loads of bits there. Here is the online store if anyone is interested in a browse.
The other three jumpers I have since last year so are most definitely not still available.
As you can see my style is fairly plain and simple but I do like all kinds of different colours as well as monochrome. Most of my jumpers are that yellow mustard colour. I'm always drawn towards that. I need more green/blue ones which is funny because when it comes to dresses or playsuits blue shades are always my first choice.
I would love to hear in the comments what your favourite winter clothing is. What do you love to buy in winter?
