Christmas with Debi
I'm Debi from Dib-Dab-Debs, a budding writer, blogger and dog enthusiast. I'm so excited to be featuring on Sinéad's blog today, only a few days before Christmas! I really love Christmas. There's nothing better than an excuse to eat lots of food, give and receive presents, and spend time with loved ones which is exactly what Christmas means to me!
I know that it's a complete cliché but spending time with my family is the most important thing about the holidays. Since I moved out of my parent's home in 2011 with my (now) husband it has always been a bit of a battle to see both families, especially on Christmas Day, but we've come to a sort of arrangement that works for everyone now.
2. What is your favourite Christmas tradition?
Every year on Christmas Eve we go round to my parents' house to watch It's A Wonderful Life. My parents, five sisters, my brother-in-law, my husband, our three dogs and I all cram into my parents living room usually with a hot chocolate or mulled wine and some home baking to watch the black and white version of the classic (and best) Christmas movie. It's such a special little touch to the festivities although I don't much enjoy the freezing drive home after midnight - even if it is only ten minutes!
3. What are you doing for the holidays this year?
This year my husband, our dog, Roxie, and I are having Christmas dinner with my family before going over to my in-laws' for their Christmas quiz in the evening and staying over night with them. We normally switch what family we have dinner with each year so that we keep everyone happy. Boxing Day will be spent at my sister's house with all my family again and at New Year we'll have dinner with my in-laws instead!
4. Will you dress up for Christmas Day or wear comfy clothes?
It all depends what I get in my presents in the morning. I'll probably dress in a "smart/casual" sort of way so that I look good but don't freeze on our travels to and from different houses. I won't be hanging about in my pyjamas all day that's for sure. I've never done that on Christmas Day!
5. When do you start to get excited for Christmas/feel 'Christmassy'?
Usually some time after my husband's birthday which is the 27th of November. At the beginning of December the decorations come out and the Christmas tunes start to be played in our household which is bound to get me in the Christmas spirit.
6. What's at the top of your Christmas list this year?
I wrote a post about this at the beginning of December. Whilst I know I'll be given actual gifts all I would really like is some patience and inspiration for what to do in 2015. I wouldn't say no to a few books and some new jeans though!
7. What is your all time favourite Christmas song?
Is it bad if I really love Girls Aloud's Not Tonight Santa? It's so cheesy and awful but it puts me in such a good mood. I also love Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade, I Believe In Father Christmas by Greg Lake and Santa Baby. Oh, there's just so many good songs! I could be here all day listing the ones I really love.
8. What is your all time favourite Christmas movie?
It has to be It's A Wonderful Life. I almost forget how lovely a film it is until I sit down and watch it on Christmas Eve. It has such a sweet message. Plus it is made even more special due to our tradition of watching it every year as a family. I also like The Polar Express (we used to watch it every year the week before Christmas) and Love Actually.
9. What is your favourite Christmas meal/treat?
I adore my mum's roast potatoes covered in bread sauce on Christmas Day and her sausage meat stuffing that my younger sister now makes for us every year. Last year when I had Christmas dinner at my in-laws' I missed them so much. I'm thrilled that I'll be having them this year!
I hope that got you all in the Christmas spirit now if you weren't already. I just want to say a huge thank you to Sinéad for having me on her blog today. It has been awesome. I think I'm definitely ready for Christmas now!
Hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas!
